A few people have asked, so I thought it was time to come back and update my mobility status and ankle pain!
The MRI
After a series of delays, I was able to get an MRI of my ankle. After a two-page report, the result was basically your ankle is a hot mess. Every tendon and ligament has damage. I have edema and fluid everywhere along with the stress fracture in my heel.
Let’s take a break and go to Florida!
I had a trip to Florida planned, so I went, and faithfully drug around my bad ankle in the hot boot. I did get creative and put in a heel cushion and wrapped the ankle. That provided some additional support and kept the boot from being so loose. Other than the weight and the heat, it actually felt pretty good.
Back to the doctor
When I returned home, I saw the specialist in St. Louis again. Basically, there is so much going on, there is no easy fix. He wanted me out of the boot (it had been 5 weeks at that point) and wanted me to try physical therapy for a bit. It took another almost two weeks to get an appointment with Physical Therapy, but I finally saw them on Friday.
It is what it is
The physical therapist told me my scar looks like a surgical scar (because it was that deep). My ankle is still very swollen, but I am doing my therapy exercises and will see them three times a week for the next two weeks then follow-up with my doctor in St. Louis. I am trying to stay off of it when I can and wearing my new supportive tennis shoes at all times when walking. If you see me limping a little, you know why. I have faith in the process though and know it just takes time to heal so much damage.
Thanks for your love and concern!
